All over the world, people wear bracelets; either on the wrist, the forearm, above the elbow or the upper arm: they emphasise the status of the individual, for men as well as women. The significance of the bracelet is interpreted by its shape, the material and decoration. Tribal bracelets are made of materials found locally such as shell, stone, vegetable fiber, metal and wood. Whether richly decorated or simply plain, their decoration can refer to fertility, status or ancestral presence. The shape of a circle can symbolise the body and soul connection. The bracelet is worn during special festivities they can also be used as a protective charm or a symbol of power or wealth.
