Worn by men on the head and used as bride price. Feather money is used in Santa Cruz as traditional money. It takes a long time to make these feather sticks and they are only made by specialists. The scarlet honeyeater bird (Myzomela cardinalis) is caught with a trap using sticky perches. The feathers are plucked from the head, breast and back then the bird is set free to keep the population stable.
