Seychelles, Coco de mer
27 cm
This type of nut can only be found on the Seychelles. When the nut has become hollow and was washed into the ocean it floated to the Maldives. They were considered very treasured objects. They used the nut for medicinal purposes and in trade. When sailors on the ships saw the nuts they felt they resembled a female bottom. They believed that the nut grew from a mythical tree on the bottom of the sea.
